European Commission Requires Repeal of Preferential Tax Regime for 1929 Holding Companies. The European Commission announced on 19 July 2006 that Luxembourg’s tax-exempt “1929 company regime” constitutes incompatible state aid and must be abolished by the end of 2006, with transition rules allowed for existing 1929 holding companies.
