Extreme Salary Sacrifice
|

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has released an officials’ issues paper to counter “extreme salary sacrifice” to ensure that employer superannuation contributions are taxed fairly. While the IRD is concerned with employees arranging their affairs under “extreme” arrangements to reduce tax rather than for the purpose of saving, the proposed changes could impact many salary sacrifice arrangements. The IRD is recommending changes to take effect from April 2007.
