Plans fizzle for pre-recess reconciliation agreement

Despite a sudden surge in the pace of negotiations and press reports indicating that a deal was at hand, House and Senate conferees on April 6 failed to reach a compromise on a $70 billion tax cut reconciliation bill, leaving further talks on hold until Congress returns from its two-week Easter recess, which begins April 10.
